How to apply discounts in Prestashop?
Prestashop is a very complete e-commerce platform. It allows you to create
personalized promotions on products . In addition, these discounts appear visibly , that is, both the normal price (crossed out) and the current discounted price (highlighted) are displayed automatically.
To apply a discount in Prestashop, you have to take into account what type of discount you want to apply. There are two main blocks: Cart Rule and Catalog Rule.
The
Cart Rule option allows you to create and modify discount codes that are applied at checkout, while the Catalog Rule is used to discount product prices.
Next, we will look at the most common types of discounts in e-commerce and the steps to follow to configure them correctly.
Types of discounts in Prestashop
There are various ways to create discounts on products within an online store. We can apply offers to a specific product or to several products from the same supplier, category, color, etc.
Discount code for a specific product
To create a discount for a specific product in the online store, go to the Catalog > Discounts > Cart Rules section. Once inside, click on Information and fill in the name and discount code. Keep in mind that if you write uppercase or lowercase letters in the coupon, when applying it, it must be written the same way.
Prestashop offers several options to activate or deactivate. We explain them!
-
By activating the Partial Use tab the coupon will have the remaining value, if it is deactivated the coupon value is reduced to the order price.
-
The Status tab indicates whether we want to activate the discount or if it is not yet in operation.
In the
Condition tab we will detail information that will be applied to the code.
-
Limit to one customer only – This option allows you to choose whether the coupon can only be used by one person.
-
Validity . Here you enter the start and end date of the code.

. Once inside, in the Restrictions tab
, you do not have to select anything, and the discount will be applied to the entire catalog of the online store.
