PrestaShop has revolutionised the process of transforming traditional commerce into eCommerce since it was launched almost a decade ago. The free application based in Paris and Miami already has the support of more than 270,000 digital stores in 190 countries, so boasting of being the first
Platinum Partner agency in Spain makes us especially happy.
As you know, at Línea Gráfica we are offering
simple tutorials to take your digital store to the level it deserves. From creating corporate emails to choosing the best modules, it's nothing short of a walk in the park. And continuing with this inertia, we bring you one of the most basic ones:
how to create product pages in the latest version of PrestaShop 1.7.
Follow the steps patiently and bring your catalog to life with confidence!
Add new product to the catalog
In the "
Catalog " section of PrestaShop 1.7 (on the left side of the interface) click on "
Products " and go to "
Create new product ". What are you selling? Socks? Fill in the main form with all the information the user needs to make a purchase.
-
Product name : Super Mario Socks.
-
Product type : standard (the one we will use), product pack (if you sell socks + pajamas + t-shirt, for example) or virtual product (if we sell a mobile wallpaper or a download code)
-
Upload product image : meeting the upload requirements, of course. Ideally, you should have a template ready in your favorite image editor.
-
Add reference .
-
Quantity of products in stock .
-
Price : It is important to take taxes into account.
-
Product category : whether it belongs to children's clothing, adult clothing or merchandising. You choose.
-
Summary : brief description of the product that invites its purchase.
-
Description : Provide all the information you consider relevant.
-
Features : material, manufacturer, brand and related products.
All set? Save your game and we'll continue to the next level.
Product quantities
The next step is to click on the "
Quantities " tab to add the quantity of products that we will put on sale and the minimum quantity that will remain available when stock runs low. If this happens, as well as being a clear sign of the success of the item, we must establish two solutions for the customer:
Deny the order automatically or
Allow the order and send it when it is available.
In either case we can mark a label of
availability ,
out of stock and
availability notice (sending a message when the stock has been replenished).
Shipping options
Ok, we already have all the product info, now it's time to set the messaging options. In the "
Shipping " tab
We mark the dimensions of the package (width, height, depth and weight), add the shipping costs (or leave it at zero) and allow the carriers: 24h or 2-3 days. Offering immediacy is synonymous with security and guarantee in digital commerce, remember.
However, for
virtual products this option will not appear when you register the item. Why? Very simple, since it is digital we will offer it via email or download. Goodbye shipping costs.
On the next page, we will select the "
Product price " . This window is quite similar to other versions of PrestaShop, so we will still find "price without taxes", "with taxes", "cost price" (what it costs us as sellers) and "specific price" (to set a specific launch amount or launch temporary offers, for example). Fill in all the fields and click on the next tab.
Optimize the product for search engines
In the
"Search Engine Optimization " tab (our beloved SEO) we will have to fill out the form with special attention to aspects such as
Friendly URL and "
Redirect Page " to be attractive to the customer (on the one hand) and avoid the
404 error when a certain product is not available (on the other). Our mission will be to direct the user to the page that we consider key to supply the article.
Time for the final varnish
We get to the end and we do it through "
Options ", marking the visibility of the product (if we want it to appear in the catalog, through search or if we prefer it hidden), its availability, the conditions and references of the product (the status, ISBN, EAN, barcode).
And finally, "
Personalization ", allowing customers to personalize the item by entering text or an image. T-shirts, mugs and cushions take first prize here.
What else is missing? In principle, everything would be there, but if we want to offer the maximum information to the potential client, we must
add attached files : additional information in PDF format such as a manual, technical specifications or a gallery with detailed plans.
Click on "
Preview " and review all the fields, don't miss anything!
What if we want a product pack?
As we pointed out in the first step, PrestaShop allows us to choose between
three types of product : standard, virtual product and product pack. To create entries for the latter, click on its option, add all the items that go in the pack (and that we have already registered in the catalogue) and set a special price; different from the sum of all the products separately.
Click on save and that's it .
