WordPress has become one of the most widely used content management systems in recent years. Thanks to its ease, convenience, and options, a large number of companies build their websites based on the adaptable virtues of WordPress.
Following the premise "I'm a fan of YouTube's life-saving tutorials", we set ourselves the rigorous mission of installing the latest version of WordPress in a subfolder of your web server in the simplest and most educational way possible.
This time we left space in the root of the hosting for other services or a new subdomain. However, remember that if you have PrestaShop hosting from Línea Gráfica you will have enough space, as well as a server 100% optimized for PrestaShop.
All said, take note and prepare the following requirements:
- Subfolder prepared for installation
- Hosting access data
- FTP Client
Download the latest version of WordPress
The first step is to download the latest version of WordPress from the website. You will only find one download link on the page, so don't worry: that's the one you need.
Start the download of the file, save it to your Desktop (for those who are absent-minded) and unzip it: inside you will find the "WordPress" folder with the contents of the installation.
Upload WordPress to the server
Next, connect to your hosting space via FileZilla using the connection details provided by your web host and transfer the three files from the WordPress download to the server. It’s as simple as finding the “ WordPress ” folder in the “ Local Site ” section of the FileZilla interface.
In the “ Remote Site ” section on the right, browse to the target location where you want WordPress to be available, in this case a subfolder , and drag the downloaded files there.
Creating a database via cPanel
The first step to installing WordPress on the web is to make sure that there is a database on the MySQL server that allows us to host the download data. To do this, we will enter the cPanel control panel, look for the "Databases" option and click on "MySQL Databases". We will create a new user and give it all the privileges to be able to install WordPress in the subfolder.
Install WordPress in subfolder
And we come to the last step: our task here will be to find the location of the subfolder with its URL and access it so that the installation starts automatically. Once inside, we enter the username and password generated when creating the database. Wait a few moments and... congratulations! WordPress is installed in your favorite subfolder.
