One of the most important elements of a store, besides its products, is the way they are distributed . The catalogue of a digital store is essential for potential customers to easily find what they are looking for or get trapped by what they are not looking for, so a correct structuring is key to performance.
In today's post we bring you a simple manual for creating categories in the latest version of PrestaShop . Create a category
The first step is to go to the “Catalog” tab in the left menu and access “Categories”. Once inside, click on “Add new category” and then fill in the following fields:
- Category name
- Displayed (if enabled or disabled)
- Parent category (if it is its own) or mother category (if it is going to contain subcategories)
- Category Description . You know, add all the relevant info
- Category cover image and thumbnail
- Meta title (category title for search engines)
- Meta description (search engine description)
- Keywords . The power of keywords is infallible
- Friendly URL (the one that will accompany the category ID: mystore.com/id_jeans-pants )
- Group access (unlogged in customers or visitors who can access specific content)
Save category
Once all the fields are filled in, we will have to save the game. The next step has two paths, so it is a good idea to make a small outline before starting. On the one hand, we can create subcategories (women's pants > shorts) and on the other, we can start adding products in the women's pants category . To create a new category within the previous one, just click on “add” as in the first step, but this time instead of choosing it as a parent, we place it within the category folder created previously and fill out the same form again to bring the subcategory to life.Import/Export Categories
Next to the “Add categories” tab, you will find the options: “Export”, “Import” and “Update list”. Thanks to the first option, you can download the .csv file with the list of categories that exist in the store and start with your new section without having to set it up from scratch in PrestaShop.
To import a category, go to “Advanced Parameters” and click on “Import”. Attach the CSV file that you have prepared on your PC and adjust all the content in “Next Step”, on the next page, to join each field of the category.
Add products to the category
The last level focuses on the most important things. To add more items to the category, all you have to do is open the product editing page and access “Basic Settings” by ordering the category that each product you have uploaded to the digital store belongs to .Any questions to resolve?
